Today : He Brings Me Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.” Psalms 94:19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Anxiety can be overwhelming. It grabs your mind and sends it into a tailspin. Down a shoot into panic and fear until it drains you. You feel so helpless, so alone. But nothing could be farther from the truth. The Psalmist felt helpless, like he was slipping off a cliff into a deep abyss, and yet he wrote, “Your consolation brought joy to my soul.” There are three important parts to what he is saying. First it was an act of consolation that brought the Psalmist back to joy. To console someone is to comfort them, to bring them solace or to alleviate their sorrow, grief or disappointment. Joy is a process, a result of finding comfort and solace even in the midst of the anxiety. Second it is God who brings the consolation. He is called the “God of all comfort.” Jesus called the Holy Spirit the Comforter. Our God is able to bring you comfort, He will console your heart. The third is that the Psalmist returned to joy. Today there is hope. We can return to joy from anxiety. There is consolation, there is God and there is joy. Return today to God, let Him console you return you to joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, where else can I go? Who on earth can console me like You can. I cry out to You Oh Lord. Comfort me, console me, return my soul to joy. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God consoles me and returns me to joy
God is able. Today, bring your heart to God. Let Him know your pain. Read today’s verse again, “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.” Whisper, “Your consolation brings joy to my soul.” Let the words sink in. Picture God consoling you. Let Him hold you. Cry out to Him. Let Him bring you comfort. Then wait. Visualize God lifting your head and wiping away your tears, comforting you and looking deep into your eyes. Sense His love and let His love return your soul to joy. Be at peace as you think of Him taking your sorrow, your anxiety and leaving you peace and joy instead. Whisper again, “Your consolation brings joy to my soul.”
